Nawanai (Rope Twisting)

Tarō Kaja is in a huff because he was sent to serve in the house of the man who won him from his master while gambling. Even after returning to his master’s house, he continues to complain while twisting rope…

Yugyō Yanagi (The Wandering Priests and the Willow)

After the venerable priest Yugyō Shōnin passes through Shirakawa-no-Seki checkpoint, an old man, the spirit of the Decaying Willow, appears before him. The old man tells the priest Yugyō the tale of the willow tree, which is the very tree that the monk Saigyō Hōshi wrote about in an old poem. This is a work of refined simplicity.
