Roren (Roren the Almost-Priest)
An innkeeper fervently implores a travelling monk to ordain him as a monk. The travelling monk accedes to the innkeeper’s wish and bestows upon him the bonze name “Roren.” The innkeeper’s wife then arrives home totally unaware of what has been happening…
Himuro (The Ice Cavern)
The guardian of the icehouse appears before an official who is visiting the icehouse at Tanba Province (now in northern Kyoto Prefecture) and relates to him various stories about the origin of the icehouse. Later, the deity of the icehouse appears and shows the official how the Hitsuki Festival is performed to present the ice to the Emperor. This is a very “cool” Noh play depicting on the stage the icehouse where winter ice is stored until the summer.
