TAEMA (The Taema-dera Temple)

A company of monks visits Taema-dera Temple in Yamato Province (Nara), where they encounter a strange elderly nun. She later appears as the spirit of Lady Chujo, who is associated with the temple, and praises the Sutra of the Pure Land.

BUNZO (The Tricky Memory Trick)

Tarokaja has forgotten the name of the dish he ate in the capital. He claims it is named in the Genpei Seisui-ki (The Chronicle of the Rise and Fall of the Genji and the Heike), so the master begins to recite the long narrative.

TSUMADO (The Double Door Gate)

The avenging spirit of Kan Shojo (Sugawara no Michizane), who died in exile at Dazaifu (Fukuoka), appears to his former mentor, the great priest Hosho-bo. In the latter half, Kan Shojo is transformed into the god of learning Tenman Tenjin, and dances to a mysterious melody.
