NIWATORI MUKO (The Rooster Son-in-Law)

A newly married groom is tricked into thinking that it is proper to imitate a chicken when he visits his father-in-law for the first time. Unaware, the groom does as he was told when he greets his wife’s father. Realizing the young man’s error and not wishing to shame him, the father does something unusual.

URI NUSUBITO (The Melon Thief)

A vexed farmer finds his melons have been stolen and his scarecrow damaged. He decides to pretend to be the scarecrow to watch over his crops. The thief returns and begins to rehearse a festival performance with the scarecrow.

BAKUCHI JUO (The Gambler and the King of Hell)

A gambler who is particularly clever with the dice comes to hell. He challenges Enma Daio, the King of Hell and ruler of the underworld, to a match and soon Enma Daio is hooked on the game. As they roll outsized dice, the demons of hell converge on the scene.
