SHUKU-GARAKASA (The Riddle Umbrella)
A lord hires a man to teach him shuku, the art of punning and wit. The man makes a pun about an umbrella, but the lord just doesn’t get it.
MUTSURA (Mutsura Village)
In Mutsura, Sagami Province (Kanagawa Prefecture), stands Shomyoji Temple, where a monk has stopped to visit. He finds it strange that a maple tree has not turned red even though it is autumn. The spirit of the maple tree appears, explains the reason through a poem by Fujiwara no Tamesuke , and then offers an elegant dance to the monk.
