SHINBAI (A Pine Branch for a Sword)
A flower arranging party is to be hosted. A lord and his servant are out looking for a shin (the main branch) for their floral arrangement. They meet a man who has found an impressive shin and manage to take it from him. But in return, the man escapes with a sword the master has.
ATSUMORI (The Warrior Atsumori)
The priest Rensho, formerly the warrior Kumagai Naozane, has come to offer prayers for the soul of young Taira no Atsumori, whom he killed in battle. Hearing his prayers, the spirit of Atsumori appears. A masterful play by Zeami, a memorial to the noble grace of Atsumori who loved waka poetry and played the flute.
