SUO OTOSHI (The Dropped Gift)
The master plans a trip to Ise Shrine (Mie pref.). As a going-away present for Tarokaja, the master’s uncle gives the servant a suo, a formal robe. Taro wants to keep the present a secret from his master, but getting drunk doesn’t help…
IZUTSU (The Well Curb)
Yearning for their past, a woman wears the robe of her lover Narihira and gazes into a well. Reflected on its surface, she sees herself and Narihira reunited. Taken from Ise Monogatari (The Tales of Ise), the play depicts an eternal love, as only Zeami could.
