SAIGYO HOSHI・TSUZUMIGATAKI (Saigyo at the Waterfall Tsuzumigataki)

On a journey to enhance his poetry, the priest Saigyo Hoshi stops to compose a waka poem before the waterfall Tsuzumigataki. That evening, he recites the poem to an elderly couple and their daughter who have given him lodging.

SUTOKUIN (A comic rakugo story about Emperor Sutoku)

A young master languishes, unable to forget a woman he happened to meet by chance. His servant Kumagoro searches for the woman, his only clue a waka poem by the Emperor Sutoku.

IMOJI (The Letter “I”)

The master and his servant Taro Kaja come to the Kannon Bodhisattva to pray for a wife. A woman appears, but when asked where she lives, she replies with a waka poem and disappears. The two men can only remember half of the waka poem and are at a loss as to what to do.
