 IMAMAIRI (The Newcomer)

A master wishing to hire another servant sends Tarokaja to find a good candidate. Taro quickly finds a man and coaches the “new face” on how to talk to the master, who enjoys witty conversation and wordplay. See how this interview ends.

YUZEN (Yuzen, the Umbrella Maker)

Remembered as the worst umbrella maker in Japan, the spirit of Yuzen appears to a monk and recounts his terrible but comical end. Parodying the dream-like mugen Noh conventions, this mai-kyogen features the best of Kyogen chanting and dance.

KANAZU (The Impudent Statue)

A man from Kanazu in the province of Echizen (Fukui pref.) comes to the capital to buy a statue of the bodhisattva Jizo. A swindler fools the man into taking an alleged Jizo, but what is it really? Enjoy the outcome.
