MIKAZUKI (The Winnow Basket Hat)
A wife is fed up with her husband, who does nothing but go to renga (linked verse) contests, so she decides to leave him. As a token of divorce the husband gives her a winnow basket and then composes a verse. He gets a wonderful surprise.
SANEKATA (The Poet Sanekata)
The spirit of Fujiwara Sanekata, who died in an unfortunate manner, appears in a dream to the poet Saigyo and dances in nostalgia for his glamorous past. Reflected on the face of a water mirror, however, is the image of an old man. An unusual Noh piece that focuses on a man trapped in his narcissism.
