SU HAJIKAMI (Vinegar and Ginger)

Two vendors, one selling su (vinegar) and the other hajikami (ginger), meet on a road. They argue which of them has a more noble lineage and a punning contest starts using the names of their wares.

MAKI-GINU (The Rolls of Silk)

A man on his way to offer rolls of silk at Kumano Shrine, tarried to compose a poem at the Otonashi Tenjin Shrine. He arrives at Kumano late and is punished, but a shrine priestess possessed by the god Otonashi Tenjin saves the man. Featured is the sacred kagura dance of the priestess praising the virtues of poetry.
