Discover SHOMYO

Tiara Koto(Large Hall)
Shomyo(Buddhist chant) of Chishakuin Temple

The National Theatre has widely introduced Shomyo (Japanese Buddhist chants) to the public as a genre of traditional Japanese music by shining a spotlight on the artistic aspects of Buddhist music/vocals that have traditionally been performed as a religious observance.
We hope you will enjoy this Shomyo piece, which led to a historical change in Buddhist music.
