National Theatre (Large Theatre)
Buddhist Chant of Hasedera temple

The National Theatre has widely introduced Shōmyō (Japanese Buddhist chants) to the public as a genre of traditional Japanese music by shining a spotlight on the artistic aspects of Buddhist music/vocals that have traditionally been performed as a religious observance.
We hope you will enjoy this Shōmyō piece, which led to a historical change in Buddhist music, in one of our final shows here in the original National Theatre.
