Since its founding in 1861 (Bunkyū 1), Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten has specialized in the manufacture and sale of taiko drums and festival equipment. This exhibition presents a carefully curated selection of approximately 190 drum bodies from the company's collection, amassed over generations, spanning the Muromachi through Edo periods. Visitors can trace the evolution of these drum bodies as legendary master craftsmen refined their construction into fully developed musical instruments, while also appreciating the exquisite beauty of their lacquered maki-e decoration.
