Outline
The National Noh Theatre hosts "Discover NOH & KYOGEN"; on October 26, 2024. This program started in 2016, designed for international beginners.
This performance "Discover NOH & KYOGEN" consists of two parts to guide you to the world of Noh and Kyogen.
Firstly, the expert will present a pre-performance lecture on Noh and Kyogen, their history and unique stylization in English. Then enjoy Kyogen "YASEMATSU" (The skinny Pine) and Noh "KAGETSU"; (Kagetsu and Father Reunited).
All seats have subtitle monitors in Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and French. These subtitles help you to understand the program.

狂言「痩松」
「瘦松」とは山賊の言葉で収穫がないこと。山奥に住む山賊は追い剥ぎをしようと通りがかった女を脅し、持っていた袋を奪い取ります。山賊が袋の中を見て喜んでいる隙に女は……。
Noh "KAGETSU" (Kagetsu and Father Reunited)
A traveling monk meets a young entertainer named Kagetsu at Kiyomizu-dera Temple only to discover that the boy is his long-lost son. The two are joyfully reunited under the blossoming cherry trees. A Zen-like tone and the young boy’s skillfully rendered songs and dance make this a truly memorable performance.
能「花月」
僧が清水寺で出会った少年・花月は、かつて生き別れた我が子でした。満開の桜の下、親子の劇的な再会が叶います。禅的な趣向にも彩られ、花月の芸尽くしも大変に印象的な作品です。
