Story

Kyogen "YASEMATSU" (The skinny Pine)

In ancient times, mountain bandits referred to a fruitless heist bearing no bounty as yase matsu or “skinny pine.” In this story, a mountain bandit steals the bag of a woman traveler. But as the bandit looks into the bag in joyful anticipation, the woman sneaks upon him and ...

Noh "KAGETSU" (Kagetsu and Father Reunited)

A traveling monk meets a young entertainer named Kagetsu at Kiyomizu-dera Temple only to discover that the boy is his long-lost son. The two are joyfully reunited under the blossoming cherry trees. A Zen-like tone and the young boy’s skillfully rendered songs and dance make this a truly memorable performance.
