[IMPORTANT] Notice of Resumption of Performances at the National Theatre (Large Theatre and Small Theatre) (Updated July 29, 2020)
With the state of emergency for the greater Tokyo area lifted by the national government, the Japan Arts Council is pleased to announce that the National Theatre (Large and Small Theatres) will resume our Council-hosted event starting with the following performances.
- Kabuki performance by young performers Aug.15(Sat.) - Aug.19(Wed.)
- Kabuki Music performance by young performers Aug.22(Sat.) - Aug.23(Sun.)
- September Bunraku performance Sep.5(Sat.) - Sep.22(Tue.)
In resuming the performances, prevention measures will be taken based on the Japan Arts Council Guidelines on the Prevention of Novel Coronavirus Infection Control and the Action Guidelines for the National Theatre.
To secure appropriate spacing between seats in all directions, ticket sales will be limited to 50 percent of normal capacity for the foreseeable future. Please know that other changes, such as an increase in sales capacity or a performance cancellation, also may take place depending on future developments.
We eagerly look forward to the cooperation and understanding of those attending our performances in the thorough implementation of our infection prevention measures.
●Guidance for Those Planning to Attend a Performance
・Please refrain from attending if any of the following applies:
If your body temperature measures 37.5℃ (99.5℉) or higher;
You are experiencing symptoms such as cough and/or sore throat;
If within the previous two weeks you have visited any countries/regions for which entry
restrictions or a quarantine period after entry are required by the national government.
・No entry without wearing a mask. Please ensure thorough implementation of coughing etiquette.
・Please comply with hand hygiene recommendations for hand washing and sanitizing.
・Please acknowledge that you may be requested to submit your name, contact address, etc.,
when purchasing at the box office.
・Temperature screening will be done upon arrival at the entrance of the theater. In cases of
suspected infection, we may ask guests for an additional temperature/health check, or refuse
entry of those with a temperature of 37.5℃ or higher. We will refund the full cost of the
ticket for those who are denied to enter.
・Your admission ticket will be visually checked by theater staff upon entry. Please detach your ticket
from its stub and put it in the designated box.
・Maintain a distance of at least one meter (preferably 2 meters) between yourself and others when
・Refrain from speaking loudly in the hall, lobby, etc. Please also refrain from conversing while seated,
calling out to performers, etc.
・The smoking area are closed for the time being.
・Refrain from waiting outside the stage doors to meet the performers and from making backstage
visits and bringing gifts etc.
・The QR code of COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA), issued by Ministry of
Health, Labour and Welfare is located in the lobby.We ask for your cooperation in registering the app
designed to help reduce the spread of the virus.
●Infection Control at the National Theatre
・Both theater staff and performers undergo body temperature and health checks.
・For the health and safety of all attendees and theater staff, staff members will be wearing masks
and may wear gloves if necessary.
・To control airborne droplet dispersion, face shields may be used. An acrylic panel or transparent
vinyl sheet may be installed, if necessary.
・Hand sanitizer dispensers will be installed at theater doors, lobby, restrooms, etc.
・The layout and the number of tables and seats in the lobby will be modified to ensure
・Cleaning, sanitation and ventilation of the venue will be thoroughly implemented.
・Nursing personnel will be on standby at the venue from the opening of the theater doors
until the end of the performance. Please report to the theater staff in case of sickness.
・The theater’s blanket and cushion rental and shuttle bus services will be suspended
for the time being.
If any persons should be found infected with the novel coronavirus at the venue, we will inform you via the Japan Arts Council website (https://www.ntj.jac.go.jp/), etc. Please acknowledge that your name and contact address, etc., may be submitted to the local public health center. Also, please keep a record of the date of your theater visit, the name of the program and your seat number.
