JIZO MAI (God Jizo’s Dance)
Claiming anything under his sunshade hat is his own, a monk stays at an inn. The amused innkeeper offers him sake, and a party starts. Eventually, the monk performs a “Jizo Dance.”
MINAZUKI-BARAE (Summer Purification Rite, based on a classic text)
A woman yearning for her lover has gone mad. They are reunited during the summer purification rite held at Shimogamo Shrine in the capital , Kyoto. This performance follows a playscript from the early Edo period, which includes the original “Farewell at Muro no Tsu” scene.
