June 2022 Traditional Japanese Music
The History of Japanese Music Ⅴ - Percussion -
With a focus on traditional Japanese musical instruments, The History of Japanese Music introduces the impressive beauty of the music as well as the historical transition of the instruments. This series, which has so far featured the koto, biwa, shamisen, fue (flute) and shakuhachi, shines the spotlight on percussion this time. You are sure to enjoy these pieces that present the charms of the tsuzumi (hand drum) and taiko (drum), presented through the renditions of Gagaku, Nohgaku, Nagauta, creative drum works and contemporary music. This performance is the last program of the series. You don’t want to miss it!
