    National Theatre (Small Theatre)

Mai no Kai - Keihan no Zashikimai-
    (Traditional Kyoto-Osaka Dance)

Presented by the National Theatre since its opening, Mai no Kai (Traditional Kyoto-Osaka Dance) showcases the delicate, skillful dance techniques of Zashikimai. Customarily performed at Japanese-style banquets in the geisha districts of the Keihan area (Kyoto-Osaka), a Zashikimai performance depicts the nuances of human nature amid elegant scenery that evokes the four seasons, to ultimately bring to mind a world full of poetic sentiment. The performers who primarily represent the four major schools of traditional Japanese dance that originate from the Keihan area - Inoue, Umemoto, Yamamura and Yoshimura - will show you the essence of Zashikimai.
