    Invitation to Shōmyō for Adults / Invitation to Gagaku for Adults
     Traditional Japanese cultures Shōmyō (Buddhist chants) and Gagaku (ancient Japanese court music) – Invitation to Shōmyō for Adults and Invitation to Gagaku for Adults are introductory programs intended for those who are interested in but still hesitant to experience these cultures due to the profound atmosphere.
     This program teaches the secrets of how to enjoy Shōmyō and Gagaku as simply as possible through the live performance of representative pieces and the commentary session accompanied by demonstrations. Also, prior to the event, the workshops are set up for visitors to experience to play musical instruments or to dance in person.
     Please take this opportunity to feel the charms of Shōmyō and Gagaku through by watching, listening, and experiencing.


    Experience on Ho-ongu Workshop
     *Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the event.

     This workshop offers attendees a wonderful “hands-on” experience in learning about the various instruments used in Buddhist services, and will be conducted prior to the start of the performance. Learn more about the world of Shōmyō!

      Venue:Lobby/On-Stage, National Theatre (Small Theatre)
      Program Contents:Experience of Ho-ongu

     *Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that registration may close early if the number of applicants reaches the limit.
     *Those who purchased tickets for the Invitation to Shōmyō for Adults workshop in July are eligible to participate.


    Experience on Gagaku Workshop
     *Please note that advance registration is required as the number of participants will be limited.

     This workshop offers attendees an excellent “hands-on” experience session in learning about Gagaku instruments and dancing. You can choose from one of four courses: Sho, Hichiriki, Ryūteki and Bugaku. This is a great opportunity to experience Gagaku in the National Theatre’s Rehearsal Room, which is usually not accessible to visitors!

      Time & Date : 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019
      Venue:Large Rehearsal Room, National Theatre
      Program Agenda : Choose one of four courses:  
       Gagaku Instrument (Sho),Gagaku Instrument (Hichiriki), Gagaku Instrument (Ryūteki) and Bugaku. (approximately 10 minutes for each course)
      *Registrations of "Gagaku Instrument (Sho)", Gagaku Instrument (Hichiriki) and Bugaku are closed as the number of applicants has reached the capacity.
      Maximum Number of Participants : 200 (Each participant may register for one course only.)
