【Limited Time Streaming】Dance Performance “Yakko Dojoji” Streaming Video Now Available for Free!

National Theatre will present three videos of recorded dance performance in order that you could experience the charm of Japanese traditional dance performance.
The first video is dance performance “Yakko Dojoji” which was presented in the year of the 50th anniversary of the Theatre.
This repertoire is based on and parodying “Kyoganoko Musume Dojoji” which is the representative repertoire for Kabuki Dance. A Noh comedian who disguises himself as a female dancer appears at Dojoji temple during the memorial service for the temple bell. He performs various dances: a dance to a rhythmic and energetic mariuta (‘a handball song’), a dance using three different masks of a plump-faced woman, a very wealthy person and a clown which he changes in quick succession, a spectacular sward fighting dance with a company of soldiers, to name a few of plentiful highlights of this masterpiece.

You might as well be interested in the message from Hanayagi Motoi, performer of this dance performance. Please enjoy.
